To support the vast global experiment in home working which has been forced upon us by circumstance, we’re continuing to release excerpts from our ‘Oh no, my team’s gone remote!’ series, as standalone brief audio essays you can enjoy and learn from, even without a morning commute.

Here’s a digest of the episodes from April 2020:

(We’ll bring you a further selection at the end of May, but if you’re keen you can catch all available episodes directly here, as well as subscribing to Management Cafe in your favourite podcast player.)

Just because you can work from anywhere, does it mean that you should?

A lack of physical boundaries can easily lead to a lack of role and time boundaries, and it’s important to consider what is fair and realistic when you’re working from home, or anywhere else.

While we have more choice than ever before of tools and apps for synchronous online video and audio calls, there are so many other ways to communicate effectively in, through and about our remote work - so make sure you don’t spend all your time in meetings just because you’re suddenly working from home (and Pilar’s new book will be a big help too in making them go well, so grab your free taste of that here).

Trust is never more critical than at times of heightened global uncertainty - but a lot of the cues on which we build trust depend on visual contact and body language.

Transferring that effect into the remote workspace when people need it most can be challenging for managers, so Pilar unpicks this important issue in detail.

We show our appreciation for our colleagues and their work in multiple ways, large and small.

When we’re no longer in a building together though, we must be more intentional - about noticing the things to value, and calling attention to them, both individually and publicly.

This episode explores some creative ways of doing just that, and ensuring your team retains their connectedness and feelings of being valued at all times, wherever you are working.
